Active Monitor - Home Automation Integration

The "Active Monitor" project is an an attempt to expand upon the features of my current home automation system by adding a series of custom-built components. So far, the Active Monitor line includes:

  • Large Vacuum Fluorescent display with scrolling system status and information
  • Zone status box with separate LED light indicating the status of each zone
  • Wireless zone expander with additional low voltage zones

The components are created for my home automation system based on the Elk M1. The Elk M1 is the most advanced and versatile UL (Underwriter Labs) certified platform I could find at the time I bought my new home. While the Elk M1 platform satisfies most of my desires, there are a few features I really wish my Elk system incorporated. For example, I have always wished that my Elk system had a prominent information screen so that I could easily see system state, messages, and other critical information quickly and easily. Most importantly, I want to see this information at night and in the dark from across the room. Thus, I started working on a project to hopefully accomplish these goals and more. Please feel free to browse the attached sub-pages for an overview of the components in progress.
